Configuration 1 : Sadowsky Single Coil

My 72's jazzbass has naturally a lot of treble and a lot of bass (perhaps one of its defaults is a lack in middle frequencies) and these pickups didn't fit well this bass. In rehearsing situation, I had the impression that my sound was too "gentle" and too "shy".

Note that I used 500K pots to test single coil pickups. It can explain why I found the sound a little bit too harsh (too much treble). I had the same impression with the Lindy Fralin single coil : after replacing my 500k pots with 250k pots (standard pots used by Fender), I got a much more balanced sound without the harshness ! Both Sadowsky and Lindy Fralin recommend 250k pots fro their pickups. Learn more about effect of pots values in session 5 .

N.B. : You can compare the Sadowsky Single Coil pickups with the Sadowsky Humcancelling and the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz in session 2 .

Configuration 2 : DiMarzio J

I had already installed the DiMarzio J in my 98's Amercian Deluxe Jazzbass (more details in session 1) and I was really impressed by the punch of these pickups. I wasn't disappointed when I installed them on my 72's jazzbass !! Again, I liked its dirty sound with tons of harmonics and its powerfull low-mid. When soloed in the rehearsal room, the sound was very dirty, definitely not as clean as the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz or the Sadowsky Humcancelling. I thought that the slap sound wasn't as good as the slap sound of the Ultra Jazz. But when played with the band, my bass produced a really steady, balanced and present sound : exactly what I was looking for ! I DEFINITELY LOVE THE DIMARZIO J !!!!!!
